이국적이면서도 웅장한 붉은 사암 건물.  첸나이 정부 박물관(Government Museum, Chennai) 단지 내에 위치한 가장 아름다운 랜드마크, 국립 미술관(National Art Gallery)

독보적인 인도-사라센 양식 건축: 1906년 영국인 건축가 헨리 어윈(Henry Irwin)이 설계한 건물. 

영국의 식민지 풍 스타일에 인도 전통 이슬람(무굴) 양식이 혼합된 독특한 '인도-사라센(Indo-Saracenic)' 양식의 정수를 보여준다.

매혹적인 붉은 사암: 인도 안드라프라데시주의 사티야베두에서 공수해 온 화려한 붉은 사암(Red Sandstone)으로 지어져, 날씨가 좋은 날 하늘과 대비되어 막강한 비주얼

원래는 여왕을 위한 기념관: 본래 영국의 빅토리아 여왕 즉위 50주년(골든 주빌리)을 기념하여 '빅토리아 메모리얼 홀'이라는 이름으로 세워졌으며, 현재는 유서 깊은 라자 라비 바르마의 회화 및 정교한 목공예품 등을 전시하는 국립 미술관으로 쓰이고 있다.

🏛️ National Art Gallery, Chennai Government Museum

The most iconic and photogenic building inside the Chennai Government Museum complex, established during the British colonial era.

A Masterpiece of Indo-Saracenic Architecture: Built in 1906 and designed by the famous architect Henry Irwin, this building is a stunning fusion of British, Mughal, and traditional Indian architectural styles.

Stunning Red Sandstone: Carved beautifully from rich red/pink sandstone sourced from Satyavedu, its majestic domes and grand arches make it a favorite backdrop for travelers and photography enthusiasts.

Royal Origins: Originally constructed as the Victoria Memorial Hall to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, it now serves as a prestigious gallery housing historic Indian paintings (including masterpieces by Raja Ravi Varma) and traditional handicrafts.
