푸나카(Punakha)는 부탄의 옛 수도이자, 현재도 겨울철 종교 중심지로 사용되는 아름다운 계곡 도시다. 해발 약 1,200m에 위치해 연중 온화한 기후를 자랑하며, 포추(Pho Chhu)강과 모추(Mo Chhu)강이 만나는 풍경으로 유명다. 특히 부탄에서 가장 아름다운 성채로 꼽히는 푸나카 종(Punakha Dzong)과 길이 약 180m의 현수교, 그리고 전통 사찰들이 있어 부탄 여행에서 반드시 방문하는 명소다. 봄에는 자카란다 꽃이 만개해 더욱 아름다운 풍경을 감상할 수 있다.

Punakha is the former capital of Bhutan and one of the country's most scenic destinations. Located in a warm valley at about 1,200 meters above sea level, it is famous for the magnificent Punakha Dzong, built at the meeting point of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Visitors can also enjoy the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the peaceful Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, Chimi Lhakhang, and exciting river rafting. With its beautiful landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Punakha is considered a must-visit destination in Bhutan.
